Since his inspiration was to do an American Godzilla movie
then an obvious sequel is Mecha Cloverfield
where we learn that after 9/11 a secret Home Security project was
to turn the Statue of Liberty into a Giant Mecha Robot to respond to
National Crisis.   armed with a torch laser beam and other weapons.
just like Godzilla vs Mecha Godzilla.
or they do something stupid such as recover The Blob from its deep
freeze storage and tosses it at it.  stopping the monster but creating
a really big blob
