I think we can certainly make some "educated guesses."

Roddenberry's original TOS was cancelled in 2.5 seasons
and his attempt to make a major motion picture was less 
than a collossal success, as were the first season or two 
of TNG under his direct management, whereas Trek under
B&B made a ton of money for the studio before it finally
petered out.  

Ten major motion pictures so far, and only two or three
are widely looked upon by "the fans" with any great 
amount of affection.

So what kind of Trek is the one the studio most likely 
wants, and what are the odds for and against any new
movie being one that "the fans" will love?

The upside is, based on the track record of past attempts
to revive Trek (especially the most recent ones), the bar
for success, both financially and for fan appreciation, is
probably set pretty low.
