That's modern storytelling for you. Everything has gotten darker and
grimmer than the original:
Battlestar Galactica
Bionic Woman
Lost in Space
Hollywood seems to have some pretty grim, dismal, depressed writers
these days. In their stories, it's all darkness, evil conspiracies,
paranoia, corruption, dysfunctional families.
Even the latest Superman movie, "Superman Returns," was grimmer and
joyless, compared to the ones that Christopher Reeve had starred in.
