The Spirit is something of a modern day Lone Ranger.  Once he was a cop
named Denny Colt, but Colt was killed in the line of duty, or so everyone
thought.  Somehow, and I'm a little vague on specifics, except to note he
did not have a faithful Indian companion, Colt survived.  But, he decided
to
remain dead.  He works on the side of the law, but outside it, to bring
evildoers to justice.  With one notable exception, the Octopus, most of
the
Spirit's evildoers are female and hot.  P'Gell is probably the best known,
but there were also Silk Satin, Sand Serif, Plaster of Paris, and others. 


What makes the Spirit unique cannot be captured in a movie.  It is a mood,
and an artistic style.  The only way to do him complete justice is to
trace
Eisner's drawings, then animate them.  And, I'm not even sure that would
work ..
