It didn't look at all like a Spirit story to me. The Spirit is not
some trained acrobat--he's a two-fisted detective who happens to wear
a mask. This looked like a Frank Miller Batman trailer, with the
trench coat subbing for the cape. (BTW, Eisner's Spirit never wore a
coat--not even in stories where it was snowing.)

It was too dark, too dirty (what's with the cats in Spirit's cemetery
lair--are they like the bats in the Batcave?), too sombre. Even at
it's most serious and dramatic, Eisner's Spirit never forgot that it
was primarily a COMIC book. And Denny Colt would never talk of himself
so melodramatically...others might have seen him as Central City's
"spirit" but he was never so self-absorbed that he'd see himself that
way.
