Being a movie freak and a comic geek I have to sound off on the
recently films mentioned in this thread. No matter how much money a
movie made if you enjoyed it that shows its real success anyway movies
today should really include there dvd and foriegn sales gross as well
since North America is far from the be all of movie viewing.

The Phantom, this little movie had promise, it stayed fairly faithful
and chose Billy Zane a great choice for the character. Though at the
time fanboys seemed slightly perturbed that Bruce Campbell, who was a
front runner for the role, lost out.

The Shadow seemed to veer far to far away from Lamont Cranston's
character to capture any of the real fans of the Shadow series.
Because the film took a more established star with Alec Baldwin it
became more of the stars picture. Adding silly elements that seemed
out of place in the Shadow mythos and never quite finding its place.
The film seemed disjointed and not quite tight enough.

The Saint, starring Val Kilmer, isn't a comic property its based on a
book series by Leslie Charteris. I enjoyed this film myself, though
the story was contrived. It was a fun romp and Kilmer seemed much more
comfortable in the role than Baldwin did as Cranston. The voice cameo
of original Saint potrayer Roger Moore added a stamp of approval fans
were glad to see, now only if they could have fit Ian Ogilvy in there
as well.

My father grew up with the Phantom. He has the original serial of the
character and he enjoyed the Billy Zane movie but in his eyes it could
not touch the serial.

I grew up reading the Shadow and watching Return Of The Saint(it has
one of the best jazzy theme songs that truly fits the series please
search it out its worth seeing and hearing) So I may have been a
little too critical of the Shadow at the time. I'd need to see the
film again before I can give a completely fair assessment.

All that being said I think we can all agree Catwoman, Elektra and
Captain America were all utter crap films...

Now does anyone remember the Marvel tv movies of Dr Strange and the 2
Captain America tv films with reb brown?
