Stasis for emergency medical needs?

by Wildepad <noreplies> Jan 18, 2008 at 01:05 AM

Device:
A ****table widgmo attached to a wire mesh which can be wrapped around
an object. When activated, it creates a field within which the passage
of time is, for all intents and purposes, stopped.

The field is either on or off. The effect creates a reasonably sturdy
shell, but it can be breached, which causes the field to disappear.

After activation, the widgmo can be removed, leaving only the wire
mesh, but it will begin to lose energy and eventually (days?/weeks?)
collapse.

By applying DC, the field can be maintained indefinitely.

By switching polarity, the field can be turned off, or if another
widgmo is attached, it can be cycled on-off-on in microsecond
increments.

The widgmo costs about the same as a ****table defibrillator.

Application[*]:
EMTs/ambulances will be replaced with quick-response teams trained
only in first aid. When there is an injury or condition requiring
extensive care, they wrap the victim in the mesh, initiate the stasis,
and trans****t the victim to a hospital.

Doctors can then schedule patients in a reasonable order (unlike the
mad wait/rush/wait of a typical emergency room), and they can review
all available information before approaching the patient.

Any necessary tests (x-rays, blood draws, etc.) can be done quickly
and efficiently by moving the patient to the proper locale, turning
off the field, doing what is necessary, and then restoring the field
(i.e. the patient doesn't have lie in pain for hours/days, waiting for
the results to come back, and the doctor doesn't have to juggle
patients when results from several arrive at the same time, or the
doctor can see the patient the next day rather than passing it off to
someone on the next ****ft).

Treatment can then be scheduled for an optimal time with all
personnel/equipment/drugs necessary at hand.

Question:
What are the potential downsides (if any)?

[*] The only application under consideration here is emergency medical
care. If you wish to discuss food preservation, energy storage, or any
other of the tens of thousands of uses for such technology, please
start a new thread. Thank you.
