You'd need to dump enough energy into the organic substances to disrupt
their structure. This requires the product of radiation density *
absorbtion to exeed this threshold. Absorbtion needs to be quite low or
the planet will act as a radiation ****eld - you'd need insanly high
amounts of energy anyways.
How about allowing a fraction more time for the effect - ionise upper
layers of the atmosphere and bounce microwaves around the globe?
