The first thought would probably be that's its a local problem, having
to do with being in stuffy buildings. I think it would take hours
before anyone made a definitive "naturally falling asleep -> doesn't
awaken" connection.  

Of course, that is for those areas of the world where it's daytime. If
it happens late evening/early night, it would take hours more for the
information to filter through to the other side of the world.
