I usually have a good number of candles on hand (the holiday candles
which burn for three or four days are incredibly cheap after Xmas),
and for no reason other than to see if I could do it, I found it
fairly easy to rig up a holder for a metal measuring cup so I could
fry an egg by candlepower.
The growth of both battery back-ups and inverters has been gradual
over the last ten to fifteen years. They aren't just for the nerds or
die-hard campers anymore.
