It varies by the missile type. Some have a single missile silo
connected directly to its own LCC (Launch Control Center) - Titans, the
old Atlas, some other models. Some have an LCC that controls up to a
dozen or so missiles which are in silos scattered across a hundred
square miles of countryside (Minutemans). Either way, the LCC does have
supplies and crew quarters for reasonably long stays, even though the
crews normally rotate thru on shorter intervals. Buddy of mine used to
be a "conehead" and they ran 4-day shifts when he was up at Minot AFB's
missile wing. Also, there are surface facilities at each LCC with
Security Police and maintenance folks.
