"How Long has Earth been habitable?"
For the most part, on behalf of the supposedly intelligent human
species, it has only been habitable since the last ice-age this planet
is ever going to see. Before then it was downright testy, of a
somewhat monoseason (aka w/o seasonal tilt) with only a third the
ocean tides, and otherwise extensively a whole lot colder than it is
right now. (most of Earth's water having been locked up in ice prior
to getting our physically dark moon)
It took a second sun, the likes of Sirius, in order to cause those
many great floods and the vast growth of diatoms.
