As a partial answer to one of my questions, the Republican Center for
Technology Transfer (Belarus) in the document linked below is claiming
that one of it's technology companies has developed a "Direct Heat-to-
Electricity Nanoconverter with 55 to 60% efficiency ratio." They are
also looking for capital investment for those of you with deep
pockets. =) This ratio rivals the most efficient steam powerplants
around. Looks promising.
