Between all the responses, we did an awfully good job of explaining -- 
in several different ways -- why your idea is wrong.  If you could not 
move any farther with the idea, you now know that it's because it was 
fundamentally flawed for a number of reasons of which you're now aware. 
  That hardly seems like a waste of time, though maybe it is a waist of
it.
