If there's psychology experiments, then they're probably not very good
ones.

I'm inclined to agree with the other responses; actually, we've had this
discussion once or twice before.
He's not trolling; he posts sincerely, I'm sure. His style of play is
such that it is frustrating for many people, and he has difficulty
acknowledging errors or problems with his ideas (not that that's exactly
rare). The pattern has gone on long enough that, naturally, people can
get pretty curt with him when he's off on a wild tangent again.
I think he's just a guy who has wacky ideas, posts them here expecting
people to play along with his game. When people don't, he gets
frustrated and tries to steer them back in the direction he wants, which
in turn frustrates the people who are responding to him. In particular,
he often tries to exert a sort of ownership over the threads he starts,
which frustrates people as well (and is pretty silly for Usenet).
None of these attributes are particularly uncommon or egregious, he just
puts them together in a unique way that results in some controversy.
