But other slightly-parallel versions of yourself who are also doing the 
return visit could show up in the same universe as you, resulting in the 
possibility of a huge pile-up of interdimensional travellers all 
crashing into each other. It seems like it'd get complicated. :)

By having travel only work through an established wormhole, you 
guarantee that no matter what branchings have occurred in both origin 
and destination universes since the wormhole was established, each 
destination universe will receive only one traveler from one origin.
