More often than not, my posts seem overly long to me to begin with --
to include tech details would make them tomes.

Also, if I was sufficiently sure that a certain configuration for an
SFnal device would actually work, I'd be building it rather than
writing about it.

Another significant factor is that in most cases, I'd be totally wrong
as to the inner workings. 

If in the 1950s I had presented: "How would you use a pocket-sized
device that let you talk to people as if it were a telephone but also
allows you to access a large public network of information," and
someone came back: "How does it work?" I'd probably say it was an
extension of walkie-talkie technology with micro-tubes, never
imagining ICs, roaming, broadband, or any of the other things
necessary to make it a reality.
