That is indeed basically the definition, so we're dealing with 
statements that basically have no information content.

If you're inside the event horizon of a black hole, then you cannot 
escape for precisely the same reason that you cannot travel backward in 
time; inside the event horizon of a black hole, spacetime is distorted 
such that "forward in time" becomes a spatial direction, and it leads 
you closer to the singularity.

If you're at an instantaneous point in the middle of some complex 
interaction of multiple black holes and still can escape, then you by 
definition are not within the event horizon of any of the black holes.

If you're in the event horizon of multiple black holes, then you will 
end up at the singularity of all of the black holes in short order; the 
black holes will necessarily merge.
