First, I think you have that backwards (if anything, it would be Mars
slamming into Venus). Second, if you can change the semi-major axis by
a couple of AU, im****ting volatiles is child's play. Perhaps

Yep. You would end up with a system even harder to get off of than
Earth, with a too-hot atmosphere that is at least as toxic as Mars.
Hmm, somehow I don't see this as an even slight improvement :).
