It used to be pretty rare to see.  Lately I've seen it often enough in 
random places that I hardly even notice the effect.  It's neat, but 
loses a lot of its power when overdone.

Now in terms of gimmicks that are hard to ignore, you could mention the 
goddamn shaky-cam ...
