Thoughts...
Some really good lines in this episode.
Less snogging, but enough talking about it that it's okay by me.
I'd utterly forgotten that Owen had been ****trayed as bi***ual in the
first episode; I'd defaulted to thinking of him as the only person in
the entire shop who wouldn't sleep with Jack. Silly me! And how good
of Owen to remind me, much to Ianto's horror.
Speaking of Ianto, I really enjoy how the Jack/Ianto relation****p is
shaping up. I like the ease between them and the playfullness there. I
had some initial concerns because of the boss/worker relation****p
between them, but Ianto seems to be untroubled by the power dynamics.
I'd expressed some dismay about how cheaply we take Jack's inability
to die, and how we utterly abused that in series one. Well, series two
hasn't pulled back, and has in fact gone whole heartedly the other
direction. It really works for me. Instead of saving it for the
miracle that can save the day, we've reduced it to just one more facet
of Jack's character. Not miraculous, not a marvel, just something he
can do. They incor****ated it in a way that doesn't cheapen it to me...
as if that makes sense, talking about Torchwood and elevating things.
But it does, for me.
As for this episode in particular, it worked. Lots happened, it
didn't feel too slow as it happened, and when I rewound back through it,
I was surprised at looking at how much had happened. It got from point
A to point B with some fun along the way.
Just as a personal gripe though, I'd like less death.
