    I think to call it metaphor it would have to be at least slightly 
different.

   I didn't think they were trying to make a comment so much as just 
using it because it's genuinely scary.  Scarier still for them because 
they didn't know themselves.  Not simply the fear that you might be 
living with a sleeper who would turn in a heartbeat and kill you, but 
that you yourself might be that sleeper who would start to destroy all 
that you value.
