Wasn't Moriarty basically an extension of the Enterprise's computer?
Hell, they could have had a living hologram crew member long before
Voyager, and even before Andromeda. Just think of the possibilities, a
member that could interface with the computer faster than Data, and
the interactions between Data and Moriarty (with Data learning about
emotions) would have built many storys.
