In episode 2 they showed how it traveled with the others in the time
jump from the vault. They didn't explain how it actually survived, some
think its because it was mostly still covered in skin (having just been
ripped of the body by blast) or perhaps some other mechanics were in
play - or perhaps the authors just didn't give a damn.

Not sure what you wanted explained, but the head (once the cat repaired
it after it had arrive through the time tunnel ;) remote controlled the
parts (they have nanites which can put them together and they can patch
into the GPS system to navigate - who knows) - stole the head of the
caretaker until it could find the real head and then it went looking for
a skinsuit.
