If they were out to make an impact they wouldn't need to be based on 
something with an existing fan base.  They'd create something new that
stood 
on it's own merits.  I think this project is destined to follow a similar 
one from about 10 years ago.  An exerience MUG company, called
Simutronics, 
bought the rights to the name Hercules and Xena and created a game called 
Hercules and Xena, Alliance of Heroes.  It didn't do so well, in fact it
did 
so poorly that once the licensing on the names expired they didn't renew
it 
and the game still exists, though now it's simply called Allience of
Heroes 
and rarely has more then 30 or 40 players in it.
