"Capricorn One" was made in the immediate post-Watergate era and its
government conspiracy storyline (with NASA simply a convenient target)
was a reflection of that. The "moon landing was faked!" morons came
much later, mostly out of the late night talk radio phenomenon. There
is a large subset of that crowd who will believe anything the Art
Bells of the world tell them.
