As ... flawed ... as the SGA writing has been, especially this season, 
despite some a few rare great eps, Atlantis being in another galaxy was a 
deliberate move to put SGA outside of range of SG1 and the Ori. Also the 
power requirements of going to another galaxy prevented SG1 or SGC from 
easily riding to the rescue.
