Odd, I know I heard/saw it used in the sense of a long, complex,
tale before I ever even heard of Veriety.  But, my Random House apparently
has the same 5 definitions as dictionary.com, at least #5 is the same.

I guess the sense of "bunch of yarn" with the double meaning of yarn makes
it a natural sort of word to use for a story.
