Bother with "New Amsterdam"?

I've seen a fair number of ads on Fox for _New Amsterdam_.
I've seen the Wikipedia article

which says

    On Tuesday, October 16, 2007, an article in The Hollywood Re****ter
    stated that production on New Amsterdam has been shut down
    indefinitely, with seven episodes of the series in the can. The
    article also mentioned that Fox has decided to take a look and
    then decide whether or not to order new episodes, something
    considered unlikely.

Is that indeed the latest news?  If so, why is Fox promoting it fairly
heavily (note: "because it's Fox" is a valid answer), and why should I
bother with it?
