It was more than those choices.

For instance we could have stories about races they HAVE met a while 
back and have learned the langauge of. First Contact stories are not 
interesting (not the way they have made them) and we've seen very few of 
them, its not a requirement.

I don't have a problem as such with them ignoring it, but it does mean i 
can never consider it good scifi because of that, just mediocre.
