My DVR tunes to a station automatically when a show starts recording. So 
when I turn on my TV it's a reminder me that my favorite show is running.
I 
almost don't even want a DVR. I'd be happy with some kind of alert that 
would just remind me when my favorite shows are on.

Something else that would be cool would be if you could just subscribe to
a 
tv show, and have a TV subscription. Like instead of renting 3rd rock from

the sun, assuming it's not on TV, I could just have a daily subscription, 
with an alert. That would be pissa.
