I believe you are right. The actual answer is they probably chose the
shows because it wouldn't conflict with the syndication rights. The
local stations probably wouldn't like it if their viewers could watch
all of the shows on the CBS/NBC sites instead of having to wait for
the show to air on the local station plus ads. The same would apply
for any cable station that picked up a show.
