It seemed to me there was a sharp divide between fans of Lexx and
those of Farscape, which came out at the same time. It reminded me
of when I was growing up and you could either be a fan of The
Munsters or the Addams Family, but not both. The Munsters and
Farscape were extremely conventional, even conservative, while The
Addams Family and Lexx were innovative, even subversive in their
own way. As a kid, I was pretty white-bread and loved The Munsters,
but I didn't 'get' The Addams Family at all. Then I grew up. ;-)

During the first run, I pretty much dismissed Farscape as having
been done a thousand times before, but I've since grown more fond
of it and come to realize it's very, very good at a technical
level. It has well-conceived, fleshed-out characters who actually
grow and evolve over the course of the series, and a coherent plot
arc that's even better than Babylon 5's in some ways. Oh, and I
could die happy gazing into Ben Browder's eyes. :-)

As for Lexx, I suspect many people couldn't get past the first part
of season 2, which can be pretty dismaying to the uninitiated. The
opening episode "Mantrid" is, to put it mildly, pretty gross, and
for quite a while afterwards the season seems to be going nowhere
except to make you want to throttle the fingernails-on-chalkboard
stupid, selfish, irresponsible and perpetually ***** Stanley. And
of course it doesn't help that a lot of the background the viewer
needs in order to understand what's going on occurred in the four
movies that comprised season 1, but that not everyone even knew
existed.
