No, it wasn't. It was originally scheduled for the fall, and 13
episodes were ordered. During the summer, FOX changed its mind,
rescheduled it for midseason, and cut the episode order to 7
(apparently, that's 7 episodes past the pilot). That, plus the
fact that they announced they were giving it a Friday night slot
prompted people (including myself, I'm more than willing to admit)
to assume that it was "pre-cancelled", and would end up just being
a burn-off sometime after the season end in May. All of this
occurred before the writers' strike began.

Within the last six weeks or so, they rescheduled it to air in
TERMINATOR's slot after that show finished for the season. And,
they used two -- not one, but *two* -- post-IDOL slots to
"preview" the series before it settled into its regular slot.

Post-IDOL slots are the most valuable real estate on the FOX
schedule. They are not something the network would throw away
on something they'd already decided was a lame duck.

If the show's ratings are low, then yes, FOX will undoubtedly
cancel it. Or at least not renew it for next season. If the
ratings are good, they may well renew it.
