Ben's childhood friend, gave a doll to Ben.

 From Locke's point of view, he saw some grainy video tape, and
a "file", a bunch of papers.  That was enough for
Locke to set Ben free, even though Ben shot Locke after
they went to see Jacob.

But then, if Ben were to die, it would be a great loss for
the show.
