A lot of local variations. Some were plank houses. Look up "Irroqois 
Longhouse."
About the only technological advantages the Europeans had were steel and 
gunpowder. NA Indians were advanced enough to run off the Vikings when
they 
tried to set up. Those boys were hard to run off.
The Indian/White wars in the East make the wars on the plains look like a 
football game.
