Well, what you saw was standard police procedual fare, he is a police 
detective after all and yes we will see what he has been doing for the 
past 360 odd years. So far we know he was a furniture maker, WWII vet 
(and I am sure a veteran of every American war before WWII and maybe 
since) a lawyer and now a cop; plus a couple of things I am forgetting. 
All that in just the first two episodes.

It was wrong but not for the reason you think. First, Nieu Amsterdam, as 
was New York's old name was very tiny at the time since it was a Dutch 
colony then. Its 1642 New York. All those who are familiar with the 
history of New York City knows that Wall street was the upper boundery of 
Nieu Amsterdam, so there will be indian shelters in what we know will be 
New York's Time Square in the future. In fact, there are a few indian 
burial grounds around fulton street IIRC. However what was wrong were the 
teepees. Teepees were built by the plains indians, not the indian tribes 
of the Northeast.

Yes he is. He is not broadcasting himself, just blending in. He may not 
be as obsessively secretive as your typical superhero but he is keeping 
it a secret. Heck his own granddaughter and great grandson doesn't know. 
He mask his existence by forging birth certificates, so he doesn't want 
to be known. I think he hangs around an area of New York and then after 
twenty years, just as people start to notice that he isn't aging, moves 
on.

That is at least two kids that he has that we know about. The other was 
that secretary back in the 1940's.
