Arthur C. Clarke, the last, and greatest of the four titans, and hence the 
greatest SF writer of the 20th century.
I always admired his boyish curiousity, love for ideas and gadgetry, and 
most of all (which may surprise some, if they never read the White Hart 
stories) and impeccable sense of humor. 

His "The City and the Stars" is my favorite book of all time.

Now that all four of the titans (Heinlein, Asimov, Sturgeon, and Clarke) 
are dead, it's about time we had some more writers of their caliber...
