Latin is thousands of years old, not millions or billions; this makes
no sense.

Consider that before the whole thing started, the Earth was about to bring
a
Prior through the gate.  Consider also that after the whole thing was
over,
the Prior was still there and hadn't done anything.

Anything more than a day or so is hard to believe.
