No, I've never had any interest in that including the Star Trek one you
mentioned. The issue now is whether Jericho can continue via other
distribution. The minute the last campaign failed to focus on trying to
expand the viewership (e.g., a DVD-buying and contest giveaway
promotion, ad-buying campaign, conveying why the show is worth
watching, etc.), the show was doomed to the same kind of numbers
that aren't enough for CBS. It became the cult show that the Jericho
nuts saved, not unlike what happened with Roswell. There was no
particular "pull" factor to get new viewers brought in, or even returning
viewers from the first few episodes.
After season 2 and the East-West Civil War and other angles, I think
there is a greater potential to re-pitch the show in a sense. But mostly
I think the key to it continuing is to get it away from CBS or any of
the Big 4 networks, and onto Sci-Fi and The CW for example, plus
the various other new media channels that ought to in total be able to
not just sustain it but make it quite profitable long-term. If the season
2 DVD were put out there for $19.95 with some extras, I wouldn't
be surprised if the core base could drum up 500,000 sales. Some of
the core base might buy 5, 10, 20, or contribute to a campaign that
buys in much greater volume. Likewise pre-order Season 3 online or
on DVD.
If Junction and Barbee & Co. see that kind of financial support for the
show (the season 2 DVD alone would have covered more than half the
cost of season 2), it makes it much more viable to do a licensing fee deal
with the likes of Sci-Fi or The CW that they'll jump at. The show has a
core viewership well above what they're used to, enough of whom are
likely to follow the show to make it well worthwhile.
