She also knew John's secret, just as Omar did, and was the only one he
was going to invite to his deathday party.  I think the writers were
trying to set up a parallel between that situation and the one John
shares with Omar now, to point out how John keeps going through this
cycle, always hoping the next one will be "the One," but just outliving
first his mate and then his kids instead.  That's why I think the woman
was his daughter: sheer parallelism.

There seems to come a point when, on behalf of their dead mothers,
John's kids get a little miffed with his search for "the One," as when
Omar asked if John gave his wives numbers the way he does his dogs.  The
phrase "my mother" could have been used in a similar spirit.
