Yeah, like anyone besides me cares about spoilers for Torchwood.

Okey dokey...
Gwen finds out Andy still has a thing for her (duh!) and gets guilted
into looking into the case of a missing boy. When she finds out how
many people are missing, it takes on a whole new urgency. Gwen
discovers Jack is somehow involved Yay Ianto! Maybe. Ianto feeding her
this info, what does it say about what is going on in his head?
Jack is fierce and harsh and mean, and of course turns out to be
protecting people rather than imprisoning them. Because he is our hero.
Thought of the week... sometimes it's better to be paternalistic and
not give people what they think they want.
Wait, do I like that as a moral?
How about: we all need hope to get through, even when it's unrealistic
hope.
Not sure I like that one any better.
THE GOOD
+Jack and Ianto getting caught was silly, but fun
+Gwen and Rhys fighting - good because there SHOULD be some
consequences, and sometimes Rhys needs to insist on them having a life.
+Gwen and Rhys coming together in the end
+ Ianto leading Gwen to the truth - I like the backbone
+ There is nothing in the episode that can be twisted to work as the
cheapening of Tosh
+ There is nothing in this episode that Owen does that is hateful.
THE BAD
+ How is it Gwen as a cop had no idea that Cardiff had this missing
persons problem?
+It's never occurred to people before that the rift might be taking
people?
+How'd the boy's head get all swollen and mishapen? I get that there
was fire, so that explains the scarring and the baldness, but...
+ Who rescued that boy?
+ Ianto leading Gwen to the truth - It worries me about the team dynamics
The Maybe
+ It's a Jack lite episode
+ It's an Owen lite episode
+ It's a Tosh lite episode
Overall the episode works better as character development than it
does as a storyline. And since I am a sucker for character development,
it works for me. (Hey, I still love Anita Blake!) But it was a story
that needed to be told, too. It's perfectly obvious that if things are
brought through The Rift one way, then it's going to work both ways.
In ways I think we even are developing The Rift as a character in
it's own right. Jack at least seems to be anthropomorphizing... musing
that the rift is returning more people, as if trying to correct a mistake.
