There are a couple of people where I work who love the series LOST. It
was supposed to have concluded sometime last year, but at the last
minute, it was renewed and they were off and running for new ways to
stretch out the whole thing. I can't sign on to a show like that, with
each year a guaranteed cliffhanger, with nary a scratch on this opaque
mystery. So these two guys are really in to it. I just can't sign on.
And it was the same way with X-FILES. This guy I worked with praised
it to high heaven. So I tried a couple of episodes. One was about a
werewolf, and by the end of the show, you hadn't actually seen the
thing. That was bad enough, but there was no real tension in it,
either. So I considered it a null experience. I watched another
episode, because my friend had said THAT wasn't a particularly good
example of the show. Well, the next one I watched had some steel
cockroaches in it. I can't remember how it concluded, but it wasn't
that interesting to me either. But despite my disappointments, I tried
to tune in regularly leading up to the release of the movie, because I
was hoping to get onboard and know what everyone was talking about.
Fruitless. Absolutely fruitless, especially since the movie didn't tie
it all up. I thought Carter missed a real op****tunity by failing to
create a tie-in with his other mysterious series that had a story arch
leading up to the end of the world, called MILLENNIUM. Now, that one I
watched. But it sputtered out with no conclusion, too. So this whole
serialized BIG STORY thing is getting a bit old.
I don't see this movie doing well, except for dimini****ng hard-core XF
fans. It seems to me that most of them would by now by like you,
realizing what a jerk Carter's been.
You want to know a jerk who's on a par with him? Shaun Cassiday.
INVASION and AMERICAN GOTHIC. Clearly he was making it up as he went
along.
