Oh, come on. We were talking X-files on US Undernet IRC #X-files in 1996.
The internet was a lot slower and it was before every man and his dog had
a 
net connection, but it was definitely there and working.
It didn't "barely exist".

And if he means net spoilers didn't exist in 98, he's wrong too. We all
knew 
about the kiss in the first movie long before we saw it at the cinema.
