All the gas giants in our solar system have them, but Saturn's are by far
the most conspicuous. Starbuck would have noted that for confirmation
purposes, and she also gave a good description of Earth. So she knows
how to identify the solar system and Earth, but to find the solar system
is
another matter. It's very obscure, but its nearest neighbor being a
trinary
star system is not. Hence the focus on that in her search of star
systems.
Once they find that trinary system (Centauri), it'll be easy to find Earth
in the system right next door.

In the renamed thread I mentioned that I couldn't find references to
other speculation along these lines, but I'd only done a Usenet search.
A google web search of "Starbuck" and "Centauri" yielded several
references on several non-Usenet forums, as well as one on alt.b-g
earlier this month. The challenges of the speculation either didn't hold
up or have been addressed here or in the renamed thread. The idea
that it's just a coincidence, right down to Proxima Centauri varying in
brightness and emitting flares, is also stretching it. So if the writing
wasn't intending it (and I think it was), it was channeling the gods
perhaps. :-)
