You said it more succinctly.  I even agree with you about the sci-fi
junkie
thing.  Of course i'm old enough to remember when sci-fi was considered an
insult.  It had to be SF  :)

My brother who is even more of a junkie than I am (he used to dress up for
Star Trek Convensions) already gave up on BG for the same reason.  He just
couldn't relate to or appreciate the motivations of any of the characters.
Basically they all seem like assholes and who wants to watch a bunch of
asshats in space?    I can follow the goings on in Wa****ngton DC for that.
It makes it hard for me to stay interested in the nuances of the plot.  I
just want to see how it ends after investing so much time in it.
