I liked the Trek shows but agree with you about the "happy ****ny answers".
I
love dark characters.  See my examples of Vic Mackey from The ****eld and
Dexter.   Even those characters, as dark as they are have a sense of humor
about them.   It's not the flaws in the characters I mind on BG.  It's
that
the flaws are all we ever see anymore.   They have no redeeming
characteristics for me.  When everyone is equally flawed, how can you tell
a
difference?  When a character like Cally is killed off, my initial
reaction
is "yay" and I have a hard time believing that's what the writers are
going
for.    There isn't a single character on the show I'd be sorry to see
die.

Some of the best drama is created when characters are thrust in to
extremely
dark situations and the camaraderie that develops.   How they keep their
senses of humor and their humanity about them.  I don't see that in BG and
since saving humanity is supposed to be the point of the show, they could
have worked harder to make those humans worth saving.
