Alpha Centauri C is a single red dwarf star with flares.  With A
and B, the much brighter binary star system, it forms a triple
star system that's not easy to detect.

I don't know whether what Starbuck saw will turn out to be
Alpha Centauri.  But the writing and the depiction have been
so consistent with that it'd be brilliant.  Yet more kudos to the
writers and science advisors, as we contemplate your and
catpandaddy's two-choice speculation on whether they're
just not smart enough or Starbuck's being deceptive.

No, it'd be brilliant as the last-step-to-Earth puzzle and choice
that Galactica has to face.  We see it, and only after a long
thread and copious research do we realize how brilliant it is.
