Well, I agree the motives of these powers remains inscrutable to us.

Consider the algae planet:

    The hybirds, who channel the Cylon god, tell Baltar cryptic clues
    to go to the Algae Planet

    The fleet p***** the Algae Planet, but then somebody (F5 member?)
    poisons the food supply, forcing them to turn back at some risk.
    (They are led there by #8.)

    Final 5 member Tyrol uncovers the Temple of Five for them.  No
    surprise -- he built the temple 4,000 years ago, and a copy of him
    is ready to talk to the Chosen One (Baltar) when it activates.
    He refuses to blow it up, and 3 activates it instead.

    This leads to the signpost to the Ionian nebula, the same vector
    Roslin wanted to keep following after the ambush there.   At the
    ambush, some new power sapping field disables the fleet.   No sign
    yet if this was a new Cylon weapon or where it came from.

    (Note that in addition to the 4 of 5, Cally and Roslin both
    react to the nebula strangely, both of them have had cylon baby
    blood in them.)


Now we see powers doing this Starbuck trick and directing the fleet
along her path.   The same powers?  Different ones?
