"The Sarah Jane Adventures" has one of the most hyperactive
cameras around. I noticed it during the Slitheen part 2, when
the children chasing around a table was pulled a little above the
standard slapstick by the camera pushing into the scene until it
looks like they're filming from the top of the table. I'd almost
think it's a joke on Battlestar Galactica's overused handheld
camera; if only somehow the BBC knew it would also be shown on
the SciFi Channel Friday nights...
Now looking for it in the Gorgon part 1, I see an almost
impossibly fast camera move around Sarah's car her second trip to
the retirement home. Are cranes getting cheap enough to use on
an establishing shot like that?
Also they use a rather wide-angle lens here and a few other
outdoor shots. It makes the camera moves look a little "off."
The camera move during the retirement home manager's visit to the
nunnery looked a bit like CGI camera moves, or is the nunnery CG?
Are computers getting cheap enough to use instead of scouting
locations?
